The blacksmithing experience (ages 16+) is designed to expose students to basic blacksmithing techniques. Students will learn the design of the Smithy and shop safety (metal is hot and sharp, etc).  They will learn proper stance, coordination and hammer control.  They will also learn the 5 basic blacksmithing techniques (drawing, finials, bends, twists, and flattens).

What you will learn

Students will begin their session by making J-Hooks (coat hooks) from both round and square stock.  From here they will make a stylized S-Hook.  This would normally fill a morning (or ½ day) session.  Some advanced students may progress to making a fire poker in this time frame.  Those progressing through into a full day, or an additional half day will complete a fire poker or another technically related item.  All of which, the students can take home with them.
